Educational Experience & Background
My name is Ashley Oswald and I have been a French Immersion teacher since 2016. I have taught in several cities across Canada. I have worked with SD38 Richmond and SD34 Abbotsford in British Columbia, as well as OCDSB and YRDSB in Ontario. I have been a primary homeroom FI teacher for the last 8 years, and I am currently working as a Grade 2 French Immersion teacher in the YRDSB.
I am currently working towards my Master of Education in Language and Literacy from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. I also have a Bachelor of Education in French Elementary Education from the University of British Columbia, and my Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology and a minor in French as a Second Language from the University of Ottawa. In addition, I also have my French Specialist AQ designation in Ontario.
8 years ago, when I made the jump from Grade 5/6 to Grade 1 FI, I was completely baffled by the idea of teaching reading to my young students. I looked around for a comprehensive, explicit, and systematic program for FI teachers, and could not find one. So, I began learning and researching about the Science of Reading (SOR) and eventually began creating my resources for my students. As I started to share my resources with colleagues, I came to see that I was not the only one in need of these resources. So, with encouragement from many of my colleagues, I began selling my resources on Teachers Pay Teachers.
I have been selling my Sound Science resources for several years now. What once began as an endeavour to get better at teaching students to read in my own classroom has slowly grown into a passion for affecting change across French Immersion classrooms across my school, school board, province, and country. I recently came to realize that simply sharing and selling my resources is not enough to help support teachers in the delivery of SOR instruction. Many teachers seek something clearer, more comprehensive, and easy to follow. So, I hope that you will find the information on my website to be instructive, comprehensive, and easy for you to follow. If you are looking for more support or information, please don't hesitate to contact me! Happy teaching!

Get To Know Me
Teaching, studying, running an online business & tutoring keeps me pretty busy! I would honestly say that literacy is one of my hobbies. But outside of that, I enjoy spending time with my partner, our two dogs (Lucy & Bear), friends, and family. I am pretty active! I've completed the 75 Hard Challenge twice now and intend to do it again soon. I love going to the gym and taking my dogs on long walks, and on runs when I feel like it. I was a gymnast and cheerleader growing up, so I now enjoy practicing arm balances and attending adult gymnastics classes. I like getting outside in nature and going on road trips! Last summer I drove from Toronto to Whistler, BC and back with my dad. This summer, I drove all the way to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moab, and Zion National Park with my fiancé, Lucy, & Bear.
